Families at the Heart of Resurrection Life Church

At Resurrection Life Church, one of our foundational core values is simple but profound: “We Are Family: We laugh together, we cry together, We believe life-change happens best in community. We believe accountability, care, and a sense of belonging are critical to balance and progress in our spiritual journey. Nothing is more fun than serving God with people you love.”

This value encapsulates the essence of who we are and how we journey together in faith. In this article, we’ll delve into the depth and significance of this core value and why it lies at the heart of our spiritual journey.

The Power of Togetherness

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 (NIV) – “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labour: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.”

This verse from Ecclesiastes beautifully illustrates the power of community. We believe that life-change happens best when we’re not alone in our journey. Together, we share in life’s joys and sorrows, supporting one another through every season.

Accountability, Care, and Belonging

Galatians 6:2 (NIV) – “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfil the law of Christ.”

We recognize that accountability, care, and a sense of belonging are pivotal in our spiritual growth. When we hold each other accountable, we create a space for honest reflection and transformation. We care for one another in tangible ways, demonstrating the love of Christ through our actions. And in the embrace of this community, we find a place where we truly belong.

Shared Laughter and Tears

Romans 12:15 (NIV) – “Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.”

In our church family, we celebrate together in moments of joy and achievement. We also stand together in times of grief and hardship. This shared emotional journey deepens our bonds and allows us to experience the fullness of life within a community that truly cares.

The Beauty of Serving Together

1 Peter 4:10-11 (NIV) – “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”

Serving God with those we love is a privilege and a joy. Whether it’s through volunteering in ministries, participating in outreach programs, or simply extending a helping hand, we find fulfilment in being faithful stewards of God’s grace as a united family.

How We Live Out Our Family Value

Our commitment to being a family extends beyond theory—it’s woven into the fabric of our church life. Here’s how we embody this core value in practical ways:

1. Small Groups and Community Gatherings:

  • Encourage members to participate in small groups for deeper connections and shared spiritual growth. As Pastor Andy Stanley stated, Circles are stronger than rows!
  • Organise regular community events and gatherings to foster a sense of togetherness.

2. Pastoral Care and Support:

  • Provide pastoral care and external counselling services to members in times of need, ensuring they feel supported and cared for.

3. Mentorship and Discipleship:

  • Foster mentorship relationships within the church, where more experienced members guide and nurture newer believers.

4. Celebrating Milestones:

  • Recognize and celebrate important milestones in the lives of our members, from birthdays to anniversaries and achievements.

5. Inclusive Outreach Efforts:

  • Extend a welcoming hand to newcomers, making them feel like part of the family from their very first visit.

United in Love, Rooted in Faith

At Resurrection Life Church, we take to heart the value of being a family. We believe that together, we can achieve more, support one another, and experience the fullness of God’s love. In every laughter, every tear shed, and every act of service, we find the tangible expression of our shared faith and commitment to one another.

In the words of 1 John 4:7 (NIV), “Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.”
